Question: Before you got chica, how did you find out if it'd get along with Layla ? Did you bring Layla along ? Just curious because I'm thinking of getting another dog for Ginger some time in the distant future.
well... had we gotten chica from a rescue shelter, yes we would have to have taken layla along for them to formally meet. but we got chica from a friend of my aunt who breeds chihuahuas. and it was sort of a spir-of-the-moment thing that we did while we were visiting.
when we brought her home, she was still really young and tiny. and we kept her away from layla for a few days until she was a little more comfortable. and we let layla come and sniff her and stuff. but layla wasnt very interested in her at all. just heard the bell on the (cat) collar, came to investigate, was satisfied it wasnt a cat, went away.
eventually we took chica to explore the backyard, layla's domain. and layla was much more interested in the little grey thing that looked like a rat, sounded like a cat and smelled like a dog. she kept trying to roll her over with her nose to sniff her underside, i would imagine to figure out what the hell she is.
since then, as chica got more and more mobile and playful, she would try to play with layla, and we hesitated in letting layla play back. but, layla is extremely gentle and knew to be careful. (if you look back several pics you will see them playing under the dining room table, it looks like layla is gonna eat chica.... but she would just open her mouth and put it ALMOST around chica, but she never bit or anything like that.) and now they play quite well. running around and chasing eachother (layla chasing chica).
Cat, rat, dog! Crog! lol Or, I like Krog better... :P
